Sketch published on Mandatory Midnight!
After a nasty breakup, Sarah retreats into her art. Immersing herself completely in the elaborately detailed pictures, she finds she may not be alone there. Is it all in her mind, or is something lurking deep within the sketch?
I would like to thank Mandatory Midnight for publishing my first short story, entitled “Sketch”. I originally wrote this story almost two years ago and it’s just been sitting around in my files and languishing in FB notes hell. Now thanks to David Harris and Mandatory Midnight it’s finally getting to see the light of day. It also means that I’m officially a published author.
Although I’ve been working on other projects over the years, both fiction and nonfiction, Sketch is the first fiction piece I’ve ever had published. I wrote it about this time of year, when I was getting in the Halloween mood. I wanted to write a classic ghost story, like the ones in the horror and sci fi books I read when growing up, but with a slightly modern twist. While it is a ghost story, I also touch on themes of anxiety and depression, and the effects of pressure on the human mind.
With that said, I hope you enjoy it. Let me know what you think in the comments and stay tuned for more stories coming soon!
